CONFUSING COUNTABLES AND NOT COUNTABLES

Theory:

The word NEWS in English is not countable.

- I heard A new NEWS. (incorrect)

- I heard SOME NEWS. (correct)

The word ADVICE is not countable in English.

- I gave him some ADVICES. (incorrect)

- I gave him some ADVICE. (correct)

The word trousers has an S at the end, but that doesn't mean there are two, so we say A PAIR OF TROUSERS, not A TROUSERS.

The same applies to some other words:

A pair of glasses.

A pair of pyjamas.

A pair of scissors.

A pair of shorts.

A pair of jeans.
