2 FCE PART 2

Theory:

In this part of the exam, the candidate is given TWO IMAGES, and the focus of the exercise is to test the skills of ORGANISATION, DESCRIPTION, COMPARISON AND THE ABILITY TO EXPRESS OPINIONS.

A basic schematic of the structure of the presentation is given here:

The main elements in this presentation will be discussed using an example image:

Identifying the elements we wish to use:

Image 1

what I see:

African American man wearing a hat shouting at a younger white man who is submissive.

Both are wearing green uniforms.

Both have short hair.

Weather: Sunny day.

aggression

unhappy

What I think- q= how might these teachers be different?

I think the two men are soldiers because they are wearing uniforms.

I think that the man with the hat is a teacher or an instructor who is teaching the recruit how to survive in a war scenario.

Contrasting linking elements: on the other hand, in contrast, whereas.

Image 2

What I see:

A young lady wearing a blue dress, with long brown hair, sitting with three small children either painting or doing craft work. She is smiling and looks relaxed.

What I think:

I think the lady is a teacher teaching little children how to paint because the scene looks like a classroom.

I think the teacher and the children are enjoying themselves because the teacher is smiling and the children seem very relaxed and involved.

Putting it all together:

In the first image I can see two men wearing green uniforms, one with a hat, who is shouting at the other man in an aggressive manner and the other man doesn't look very relaxed. I think the two men are in the military because they are wearing uniforms, and the man with the hat is the teacher who is teaching the recruit how to survive a war scenario and has to use aggressive methods, which is why I don't think the other man is relaxed. In contrast, In the second image, I can see a young lady wearing a blue dress, with long brown hair, sitting with three small children either painting or doing craft work. She is smiling and looks relaxed. I think the lady is a teacher teaching little children how to paint because the scene looks like a classroom, and I think the teacher and the children are enjoying themselves because the teacher is smiling and the children seem very relaxed and involved. The teacher here needs to be soft to get the children to relax and participate, whereas the teacher in the first image needs to be aggressive and strict to get the student's attention.

Note: It is of crucial importance if you want a good mark, to connect everything you say with the question asked. Here the question is - what is the differences between the teachers? Each connection above has been underlined.
